Antti-Juhani Kaijanaho has requested Debian developpers, and me in particular for explanation about theirs choices.

As I said before, I think we have to release Sarge as soon as possible in order to satisfy our users, so I have just voted for postponing changes until Sarge is released. Why did I chose this option ?

First, Woody is now two years old. A lot of our users are waiting for Sarge, and, from people I know, they don't care about things like kernel firmware licence they does not use anyway. What they want is a new stable release, as soon as possible. If Debian is more free than before, they think, like me, it's a good thing, but that a new stable release is now an emergency. Woody is *really* too old now.

However, since I agreed for the modification of the Social Contract, I do not want to revert to old wording of it. I rated "reaffirm current SC" above "further discussion" because I think that we have to take a decision, and we do not need any further discussion. Adding apology to Social Contract is a solution, but I do not think that is the best one.

Finally, I think that setting a date for postponing changes of SC is not a good thing, since we can't be sure when Sarge will be released. That's why my choice was postponing changes until Sarge is released: because this is what I think, and what a lot of users I know or I heard want. Release first, free after.

Here is my full ballot (I prefer to classify all choices, this is probably not the best way to vote, but that's mine):

[ 2 ] Choice 1: Postpone changes until September 2004
[ 1 ] Choice 2: Postpone changes until Sarge releases
[ 3 ] Choice 3: Add apology to Social Contract
[ 5 ] Choice 4: Revert to old wording of SC
[ 4 ] Choice 5: "Transition Guide" foundation document
[ 6 ] Choice 6: Reaffirm the current SC
[ 7 ] Choice 7: Further discussion
