Back from holidays

After 10 days of nice holidays, I'm back. I was totally offline, so I had to read some hundred of mails first, which is done now.

For a good restart, I've fixed a bunch of bugs in awesome and released 2.2-rc2 version. I've also migrated apt-build repository on Alioth from Subversion to git. I've uploaded a new version of this one with some patches, and a also put in the archive a new version of the mp32ogg package.

Next step will be to move my packages repositories which are in my global home Subversion repository, to my own git repositories on Alioth.

apt-build moved on Alioth

I never used Alioth before, but I decided to use it for apt-build, because I want to have more people developing on it.

So now, if you want to launch flames about apt-build with me and other (futur-)developers, you can subscribe to the apt-build-devel list, and you can checkout the latest Subversion version from the all new apt-build repository.

apt-build bug squashing

Tonight I just tried to kill some bugs on apt-build.

I find quickly that there was mainly two bugs in all this mess of bug reports. The first one (#317734) is still open because it's a bug of libapt-pkg-perl (#317058).
The other one (#328170) is now squished, it was just an error in the PATH filtering function, in the gcc/make wrapper.

I am a "not so bad" maintainer :)

I just fixed some RC bugs in my packages to get my ass not kicked.
I uploaded a small update for apt-build. I tried to use it, and it seems to be totally dead. Trying to build blackbox (my reference test, this is historical), make died with a segfault, and at the end, apt-build died with a segfaults. Yee-pee ! And I don't know why, this is weird.

I also asked the removal of torsmo (superseded by conky) and orphaned manderlbot, since I have no skill in Erlang.

I also find out why I could not fix the f****** FTBFS on svnmailer. And it was because the -I.svn option of dpkg-buildpackage I used, skipped the svnmailer.conf.example file, obviously... Raaahhh, bad shell alias configuration => headache !

apt-build

Ok, I did not had the time to fix apt-build bugs since a while.

So I tried to fix some of them quickly, I hope it won't be worse. I just uploaded 0.12.11.

But I have still a bug (#328170) with gcc-4.0 that I don't understand for now. Grmbl.

apt-build 0.12.6 in unstable

I just uploaded apt-build 0.12.6, the 7th version of 0.12 branch in unstable. It fixes many bugs, something like 10-15 on about 32.

I think I will have many new bug reports now, raaahhh *g*

apt-build 0.12.0 enters experimental

Tonight I have uploaded a new release of apt-build in experimental.
This release finally uses more the libapt-pkg-perl API. This reduces the code size and should be more efficient, avoiding many apt-get external calls.

The main changes were made in the install, build and source functions. Please, test building andinstalling some packages if you have some spare time, I need a lot of bug report to continue this developement.

apt-build article: new version

Julien Reverret sent me his new version of the french article about apt-build. I have updated the translation.

mercredi, janvier 12 2005

apt-build 0.11.0

A new major version is on the road. I reduced the number of bugs from ~25 to less than 20.

It fixes some bugs of the new wrapper and add a wrapper to make! Have fun!

OSnews announce

Hey my translation was announced on OSnews, great!

jeudi, janvier 6 2005

apt-build 0.10.0

And it's done ! The "I will kill Gentoo in 2005" release was uploaded to unstable today.

Changes are pretty cool and the new wrapper system is smarter.

I hope it is not too buggy and won't break your system on upgrade. If it does, please beat me. :)

edit: I tested this version during 5 days on an old Pentium 2 box running apt-build world and it works without any problem (but with some FTBFS :( ).

apt-build article in portuguese

This version in portuguese is available here. Thanks to Gilberto Müller!

Please, if you have 5 minutes, read this posted on debian-{devel,gcc} (Message-ID: <20050101142216.GA14291@jolinar.adm.naquadah.org>) and help me. ;)

In the core of apt

Working on apt-build, I had to use apt to manage a lot of things and I can tell you: APT IS A MAZE !

apt-build uses --print-uris option with install and source commands of apt-get, mainly to determine versions. But sometimes you will have an epoch in the deb file but not in the dsc one, another time you will have a source version which is different from the binary one, so you have to use apt-cache and when you want to use the apt-get <command> package=version command line format, you will have a headache if you do not care of what you are doing.

Sure it should use other things that system() calls to apt-get like a Perl lib, but for now... beer time.

apt-build revolutions

Today, since I had nothing to do, no friends, no life, no beer, I decided to work on my famous apt-build (which I never use of course).

I rewrote the gcc/g++ wrappers... in C ! This should avoid running Perl on each C compiler call, which of course sucks.
I modified some regexp in version parsing to remove some bugs with some weird source version (like bash-2.05b-2-24 or rhythmbox-0.8.5-1ubuntu2).

This version, 0.10.0, seems to be a first step to my world domination project, AHAHAHA !.. ehm, I mean, my project of killing Gentoo, of course, sorry.

I am running an apt-build world on a test box to be sure everythings works.

Debian stuff

I just uploaded a new version (0.9.12) of apt-build with minor fixes and a new upstream release of pisg (0.62).

I did not work on my Debian packages for a while, but it's good to do geek stuff sometimes. It makes you think about other things and clear your mind, this is what I needed.
